This might be the most intelligent thing i've heard all semester

This is a facebook group (comprised of about 85,000 members the last time I checked) that is mindlessly protesting the upcoming film The Golden Compass. None of the members have read the books, and all have horribly skewed ideas about the plot and themes. I joined it in order to correct these presumptions and defend what is arguably my favorite series of books.

The admins of the group are obviously afraid to hear any opposing viewpoints because the wall and discussion boards have been disabled. As such, many have taken to debating through picture comments, as I have. If you want to make your opinions heard and defend a great story, here's the link.

that is horrible. ok, make a group, but it's immature to use one pullman quote as your one piece of evidence. it pisses me off that they won't even be open to an opposing viewpoint. the first book barely has any anti-religion comments in it. and last time i checked, wasn't it against organized religion and not religion itself? (the republic of heaven).

this is all reminiscient of the huge "controversy" that john lennon sparked in the mid 60's by indirectly saying that the Beatles were bigger than Jesus. people took his comment in a way it wasn't meant to be taken and look what happened.

The grand irony of it all is that the american conference of bishops or something like that said it was "intelligent" and basically praised the movie. I'm not anti-religious myself, but I think Pullman is secretly pleased that his movie has caused so much controversy and has actually served to prove his point that the Church is choosing what people must think. (They're not allowing Christians to see the movie). Pullman is coming off as the victor while the Church looks like fools

Is it a bad thing that the most I've ever cared about pop culture has to do with Harry Potter? (Zach, don't answer that question.)

this is an email laurel sent me acouple of months ago...

there are times when life seems so bad and we can't see the light, and we feel like we cannot go on because everything feels like a hideous tunnel spiraling downwards, the vortex of the mind that allows no escape the further we allow it to go. And the easiest thing to do seems to be just give up. It takes true strength to pull ourselves out of it, even to just grasp at the faintest ray of happiness or good thoughts, it's like a flimsy cobweb glimmering in the shadows. But reach out for it, and it will be a strong handhold, on which we can rest and regain strength to get out of it and see the light and then realize how much good God really put on this earth, and how blessed we really are.

I miss you.

The Book of Jordan: Chapter two
1) On the first day of Camp Jordan groaned. "Oye!!! My glory days are behind me. I am on a crutch! what shall I do?" 2) and then to his utter amazement, standing bfore him 3) His brother!!! 4) Justin was there. all the girls cried out. "Behold!!! Jordan is here and he has brought his brother! He is cute in his onw right. let us go and meet him. 5) and all came and met jordan's brother.6) then Justin walked and Jordan limped off to class.

The Book of Jordan chapter three.
1) As the many boys gathered in the council room for Boy's talk, there was many discusions.2) and in all the loudness, the great Bundi called out and there was order at his voice. 3) "We must elect a leader amoung us who shall it be?" and all at once they shouted out 4) "Jordan!" and it was so. 5) and on the first day the Boys learned about instumental music. and how even though it maynot be mentioned in the bible. the divisions in the chruch over it are soooo powerful that we should not do it at all. and then it became night on the first day.

The book of Jordan

Book of Jordan: the Final Journey

1) Once there was a boy named Jordan, not a very special boy but just a boy who was open. 2) and after two amazing years at the paradise of camp PCC and losing many friends to the far off lands of Col-lege Jordan did not know how PCC could be any better then it was in the past. 3) Unfortunately he was right. It wasn't better. As a matter of fact, it wasn't nearly as good, not nearly as much fun. 4) However certain miraculous deeds were done, and many lessons were learned. 5) These are the records of those tales..

Edit....

and now my knee hurts... i think i over did it....

There Are Stories Everywhere.

Even in the dates.

On this seventh day, of the seventh month, of the seventh year,(07/07/07) and incidentally the seventh day of a week, Saturday, I am proud to announce my greatest project, my magnum opus, my God-song, my novel, There Are Stories Everywhere.

That’s the title to the series anyway. There Are Stories Everywhere, (T.A.S.E for short,) is a series of coming of age novellas about a group of high-school age superheroes who call them selves Operation SSS. And while, of course, it is action packed with explosions, and betrayals, and violence, and all the other bells and whistles of your typical sci-fi/ fantasy novel, it only uses these as a medium to ask deeper questions of life about, peer pressure, being yourself, predestination, God, love, pride, time, alternate universes, the macrocosm, and utilitarianism.

As of yet, I only have five of the eleven novellas completed, and it has already been an amazing journey.

So, while you wait on the edge of your seats, eagerly itching to read what will undoubtedly be the breakthrough novel of the century, (I can dream, can’t I?) all I have to say is, There Are Stories Everywhere.

O3S fever may now commence.

Jordan H.
